Frequently Asked Questions

CD Support

Previous versions of our Power Engineering learning materials included supplementary learning resources on a companion CD. However, PanGlobal no longer produces CD's for any of our learning materials. Instead, this supplementary media can now be freely accessed via our Learning Resources & Companion Website.

PanGlobal also does not provide technical support for the CD's that were shipped with previous versions of our products.

Common Learner Questions

I would like to buy one of your products. Can I take this course for credit from your company?

No. Our company does not offer courses. We produce the learning materials and related educational support products for all levels of Power Engineering, approved nationally by SOPEEC, ACI and regional jurisdictions plus several custom learning materials for individual educators and general use. The materials we publish are sold to colleges, private educators, corporations and individuals. We do not provide educational services or any credentials to learners, but do supply a number of learning tools to both educators and learners.

Are your course materials the same as the old SAIT courses?

Our original materials were from SAIT Polytechnic, NAIT and BCIT. All learning materials have gone through a rigorous process of evaluation and renewal in alignment with changes to the national certification syllabi. Substantial changes have been made to the original materials for Fifth Class, Fourth Class, Third Class, Second Class and First Class.

I have purchased your product. Who is my instructor?

Our company supplies the courseware. The learning institutes and colleges supply the instruction. If you are self-studying we supply no tutorial or support services. If you are looking for an educator to support your learning, we recommend that you work with one that is approved by your jurisdiction. Most approved educators in Canada are listed in the Learner Support area of our website. For an up-to-date list, please contact your local certifying jurisdiction.

Material Information

Are there any additional resources for math or engineering?

Currently PanGlobal Training Systems sells two titles by author Stan Bailey:

  • The single volume "Basic Math and Physical Sciences Workbook" addresses those areas in math and physical sciences than learners at the 5th, 4th and 3rd Class have traditionally had difficulties with. Its combination of problems and worked solutions has been widely praised as an effective tool for closing knowledge gaps that may not be completely satisfied by the base learning materials. The base materials concentrate on content that is specific to each level of certification, but may not contain complete coverage of relevant calculations that were covered at an earlier level.
  • The two volume "Introductory Applied Mechanics" is PanGlobal's first topic-specific textbook series. These texts address applied mechanics topics critical for the Power Engineering candidate. They may be most useful for the Third Class and Second Class candidate, although two-year college programs have found them useful in each year of their programs.

Are PanGlobal's Power Engineering Training System materials approved by the various agencies for study towards their examinations?

PanGlobal materials are approved by members of SOPEEC as the standard study materials for National Certification examinations in all Canadian Provinces and Territories. This includes certification exams for 5th Class, 4th Class, 3rd Class, 2nd Class, 1st Class and Refrigeration Operator. There are also a number of provinces that have approved custom sets of learning materials for their regional certification.

Are approved materials available for learners in Quebec.

A French version of PanGlobals materials are approved by Quebec as a member of SOPEEC for the 4th Class program. French versions of PanGlobal materials are also approved for study purposes by Quebec's candidates for certification at the 3rd Class, 2nd Class and 1st Class levels.

Is there any notification given for revisions?

Revisions and new products are showcased in the News section on our website.

Which materials do the 2004 ASME Academic Extract and the 2004 ASME Academic Extract Supplement work best with? When will the ASME 2007 extract be available?

The 2004 ASME Extract is recommended for use by 4th Class, 3rd Class, 2nd Class and 1st Class certification candidates. The 2004 ASME Extract Supplement is recommended for use by 2nd Class and 1st Class certification candidates. The ASME 2007 Extracts will be available in 2009.

How often are major revisions done?

Rewrites of materials follow the national SOPEEC and IPECC Syllabi and Curriculum review process, which is continuous but is compiled every five years for the 5 Classes of certification. Each year a different certification class is reviewed. For example, in the 2007-2008 school year, the 3rd Class syllabus and curriculum were reviewed and reported on at national meetings. In response to these reviews in 2008-2009 PanGlobal has re-written the 3rd Class materials, which will be presented to educators across Canada for their review in 2009-2010. Then the newly re-written and approved 3rd Class materials (Version 2.0) will be available for purchase by learners and educators in the spring of 2010.

Is there any material that can be watched or listened to?

There is a selection of videos in the Learning Resources & Companion Website section of our website.

Errors & Corrections

What do I do if I find an error?

PanGlobal's learning materials are a collaborative effort of Canada's Power Engineering profession. There are a number of quality assurance processes in place to reduce the number of errors in our products, but some do get through. Please report any suspected errors by filling out the Correction Submission Form. Also, please check in the "Corrections and Updates" section of the Learner Support area of our website to find newly identified errors and validated corrections.

What is the process once an error is reported?

When a suggested correction is received it is sent to the Chair of the appropriate IPECC committee. At the same time, PanGlobal internally verifies the correction and then posts it under Corrections & Updates on our website. In the case of a simple text error, a Corrections PDF may not be posted, but we will fix the error for the next printing. If necessary, you will be contacted directly by our staff with a resolution to your suggested error(s).

Where do I find Correction PDF’s?

Correction PDF’s can be found on our website under Corrections & Updates.

Can I be notified of new Correction PDF’s?

We are currently working on a system to notify customers when the Corrections & Updates section is updated. Until this is available, please continue to check our site often to ensure that you have the most current Correction PDF.
